1) Can I adopt a child through ICA?
We are grateful for your compassion
to care for children in need around the world. However, International
Crisis Aid is not an adoption agency. ICA has multiple programs to care
for orphans and vulnerable children, but we do not process adoptions.
The best way to reach out to orphans we care for is through ICA's Child
Sponsorship program. Visit http://www.crisisaid.org for more information.
2) How can I make a donation?
If you would prefer to send your donation by
mail, please mail your check or money order to:
International Crisis Aid
P.O. Box 510167
Saint Louis, MO 63151-0167
You can also make a secure donation online at www.crisisaid.org or
over the phone at 1-888-740-7779.
3) Can I give to a specific program?
Yes, you can designate your donation(s) to a specific program.
Just make sure you attach a note with your donation identifying
which program you are supporting so the funds will be properly
credited, as you wish.
4) How can I help?
There are several ways you can help ICA to reach children and families in need:
1. Make a donation immediately at www.crisisaid.org or 1-888-740-7779
2. Host a fundraising project with your church, business, family or community
3. Become an ICA Advocate to bring awareness and education
4. Become an ICA Prayer Partner
5. Host an informational party in your home
Visit www.crisisaid.org for more information or contact ICA at info@crisisaid.org.
5) Can I volunteer in one of ICA's international programs?
ICA has been leading medical mission trips with
churches and individuals since 2006 to Ethiopia, East Africa.
If you are interested in filling out an application to be considered for a future trip,
please send ICA your request at www.crisisaid.org/contact.html or e-mail us at
info@crisisaid.org. An application will be e-mailed to you within the week.
Thank you for understanding we are unable to approve every request and will fill
openings based on applicant qualifications and program needs. *Please note all
applicants for international missions must have prior experience serving in a
developing country.
6) Can I volunteer at ICA Headquarters in Saint Louis, MO?
In order to keep administration costs low,
ICA heavily depends on volunteers to assist us in the office. ICA has
multiple volunteer opportunities for individuals interested in
volunteering for a minimum of three months. We would welcome qualified
individuals to assist us with:
- Fundraising Campaigns
- Grant & Foundation Research & Writing
- Film/Video Editing & Creation
- Digital Photography Editing, Database, Etc.
- Office Administration
- Public Relations & Journalism
- Data Research
If you are interested in filling out an application to volunteer at ICA
Headquarters, please send ICA your request at www.crisisaid.org/contact.html
or e-mail us at info@crisisaid.org. An application will be e-mailed to you
within the week. Thank you for understanding we are unable to approve every
request and will fill openings based on applicant qualifications and office needs.
7) Does ICA have an internship program?
International Crisis Aid does not have
an official internship program. However, we do have university students that
volunteer with ICA. We would be welcome to discussing the possibility of arranging
an internship program based on individual applicant needs and current ICA needs.
For more information, contact ICA at info@crisisaid.org.
8) How can my organization, NGO, CBO, ministry, etc. receive support from ICA?
ICA receives many requests from around the world.
Unfortunately, our current resources will not allow us to respond to every request
for assistance. ICA is currently only considering support requests from registered
organizations in the countries which we are already serving. To be considered, please
e-mail your project proposal and request to info@crisisaid.org. Thank you for
understanding we are not able to meet every request and submission does not
guarantee your organization anything.
9) How can I apply to work for ICA in the U.S.?
Thank you for inquiring about employment
opportunities with International Crisis Aid. In order to keep administration
costs low, ICA Headquarters is heavily staffed by volunteers. If you would like to submit your resume for future
consideration, we would welcome you to do so. You can e-mail us at info@crisisaid.org.
10) How can I apply to work for ICA in one of the countries ICA serves?
Thank you for inquiring about employment
opportunities abroad with International Crisis Aid. ICA typically employs
locals for all of our programs. We currently do not have any openings.
If you would like to submit your resume for future consideration, we would
welcome you to do so. You can e-mail us at info@crisisaid.org.
11) What kind of degree is needed to do work like what ICA does?
Every organization's requirements and preferences
are different. Many NGO's (non-government organizations) prefer for you to
have a graduate degree and experience before they will even consider you.
Therefore, we would recommend you consider a graduate program and expanding
your volunteer experience. Some NGO's prefer you go to the Peace Corp to
gain experience. Others want you to volunteer in the field for anywhere
from three months to a full year before they will consider you. On the
other hand, there are some that will hire you with little experience.
It really just depends on the organization and what area within the
organization you want to work (implementing programs in the field,
customer service, accounting, translator, fundraising, etc.).
We would suggest one of the following:
1. Identify what area you want to work in
2. Pursue your graduate degree
3. Volunteer for three months to one year for an NGO in
the field you desire to obtain a future job
4. Consider going to the Peace Corp
If you think option 1 would be best for you, then I would recommend applying
to a university that is well known for their programs in International Studies
and Development Work. Most universities will not have any classes or programs
on this. Find a university that has a solid program, and not just a few classes
to offer. I would also recommend becoming fluent in a second language.
Again, every organization will prefer and/or require different things in regards
to education, experience, etc. Some organizations might consider hiring you
after obtaining your Bachelor's degree, with no experience and no graduate degree,
in an entry level position which could develop into something more solid in
time. Others will require more substantial knowledge and experience.
12) How can I start my own orphanage or nonprofit in the U.S?
International Crisis Aid is an international
relief and development organization and does not provide recommendations like
the ones you have requested. We are not able to provide specific information
on how to start your own nonprofit. Since laws will vary from state to state,
we would suggest you contact appropriate local government officials. You can
visit www.irs.gov for more information. Thank you for your concern for
children in need and good luck with your endeavors!
13) Is ICA a Christian organization?
International Crisis Aid was founded
as a Christian, faith-based organization. However, ICA does not
discriminate against any race, religion or ethnicity. Some of
ICA's core beliefs are:
- Share the gospel use words when we have to
- Work in a manner that earns the right to be heard
- Go to the people in THEIR time of need
- Personally oversee the distribution of aid, whenever possible
- Live and work with an attitude that respects every
person's dignity; we are all made in God's image
- Work through establishing effective partnerships/teams
with other like hearted groups both here and
abroad; "together we can do so much more"
The vision for International Crisis Aid was born in a scripture from Isaiah 58:
"And if you give yourself to the hungry, And satisfy the desire of the afflicted,
Then your light will rise in darkness, And your gloom will become like mid-day.
And the Lord will continually guide you, And satisfy your needs in sun scorched
land, and give strength to your bones; And you will be like a watered garden.
And like a spring of water whose waters do not fail."
